Designers & Artisans
The John Hardy brand is born of a collaboration between designers and artisans. The artisans bring deep knowledge of materials and processes. The designer brings the impact of imagination – the sudden intuition, the nurtured vision.
The early John Hardy pieces grew out of four traditional Balinese jewelry-making techniques rantai (woven chain); tenun (woven mesh); jawan (granulation); and ukiran (cut work). Master jeweler Werner Bellezer developed superbly engineered clasps and introduced modern technical solutions to make the jewelry more comfortable and durable.
In 1990 Head Designer Guy Bedarida joined the firm to develop the Bali design studio, bringing the traditions of haute joaillerie and introducing the techniques of the fine jewelry illustrations. He works with a team of highly skilled craftsmen, from illustrations to wax-carvers and silver and goldsmiths. Artisans in Thailand experts in the art of gemstone cutting and setting, also bring the knowledge of generations to the making of John Hardy jewelry. At John Hardy, design creativity flourishes and evolves in this partnership.
